After Sochi Scandal, the ISU swiftly took advantage of the complaint filed by South Korean Skating Union. You ask a thief to lay a verdict over his own crime. But let's admit. The comedy set by the ISU and its disciplinary committee in fact looks more hilarious than Letterman's.
According to the Fox sports, the ISU has ruled that there was no judging bias in Sochi with regard to Adelina Sotnikova's win over Yuna Kim.
Did that surprise any? If the ISU were to admit its crime, why would it have done that at the first place?
Another comedy comes from the complaint itself. It appears that the complaint seemed centered on the legitimacy of a judge's conduct: Alla Shekhovtseva, wife of the former president of the Russian skating federation.
In the statement the ISU asserted that there is no conflict of interest "when the wife is judging and the husband, the Director General, is not officiating in the same competition." It also concluded that "The judging of [Shekhovtseva] was neither biased nor partial to the Russian skater Sotnikova. ... The Alleged Offender did not deliberately or negligently breach the rules; she responded reflexively when the skater raised her arms for an embrace."
Okay, are you ready to laugh?
So who cares who embraced who? Why the ISU bothers about that? Why South Korean official even argued that? What has it got to with Sochi Scandal?
It looks like a well rehearsed comedy by both sides. If the ISU didn't find any bias or corruption, then it's because they are the guilty ones. The nature of fraud in Sochi is not based on interpretive opinions by the ISU committee. It's self-evident.
The ISU disciplinary committee has no authority to judge the crime committed by the ISU itself. It's the very example of conflicting interest. The complaint was an opportunity for the ISU to redeem itself, not to play a judge.
When courtesy fails and good will receives scorn, then there is no option left but force. The current ISU passed the point of no return. It is time to boycott the ISU and all its events until Cinquanta and his corrupt officials are removed from their posts.
